METHODOLOGY BASED ON A SWOT-DELPHY-CAME ANALYSIS FOR THE EVALUATION OF AUTOMATED CONTAINER TERMINALS IN PORTS

Abstract

The current trend, in terms of container terminal operations worldwide, describes an increase in the number of partially or fully automated terminals (3 per cent of all terminals worldwide). The methodology used, SWOTDELPHI- CAME, is a new and little used methodology, of business origin, which helps in the decision making process. This methodology shows important or significant aspects of automated container terminals. The main conclusion is that cybersecurity; transparency or staffing are the main issues that currently arise when assessing an automated port terminal. Furthermore, the existence of an automated container terminal improves the port in terms of efficiency and competitiveness, and opens up new commercial expectations.
