Abstract

In the wake of rapid urbanization and a push for child-friendly cities, designing community parks with children in mind is crucial for nurturing their development. Drawing from Jean Piaget’s cognitive development theory, this study investigates how multisensory design in parks aligns with the behavioral and developmental needs of children. It discusses how multisensory experiences can be tailored to positively engage children at various stages of growth. The paper presents an analysis of Piagetian developmental stages to distill multisensory design features suitable for child-centric parks, aiming to shape future planning and design strategies. The impact of these designs on childrenā€™s activities is evaluated to offer actionable insights for constructing child-friendly urban spaces. The goal is to provide a theoretical and practical framework to support childrenā€™s well-being in urban settings through multisensory park design.
